Persson Innovation holds a strong grip of environmentally friendly handles
Persson Innovation started as a family business in Sweden in 1982 producing handles and applicator machines for packaging of consumer products. Since the beginning, they have been operating globally, and was the first company in the world to produce a handle made of 100 % paper, making it completely recyclable. With the latest upgrade in their production, they have been able to increase their efficiency with 44 % and improved the quality of their product.
Sustainable products and production
Persson Innovation has a strong sustainable focus to produce durable handles for cartons. The product is being used for different packaging e.g. wine-boxes, cat litter, detergents, toys, electronics and more. Working with some of the world’s largest brands and leading manufacturers, continuous innovation and improved efficiency is always on the table. Launching a new project, with the ambition of improving the quality of their products, as well as improving efficiency – they started looking for the best supplier to deliver what they needed.
“With support from Beijer Electronics, we achieved what we wanted, and more!” says Kristian Nordgren.
Improving quality and efficiency
The requirements coming from Persson Innovation were to find a solution for their handles to be packaged in a smarter way, so that the boxes could be filled faster and in a more space efficient way than before. The mission was given to Beijer Electronics after other suppliers had tried and failed to deliver a functional solution.
“The project was initiated because we wanted to see a higher quality as well as an improved efficiency in our production of handles. We started looking around for different suppliers that could meet our requirements and found Beijer Electronics to be the best candidate.” says Kristian Nordgren, CEO Persson Innovation.
After extensive testing together with Beijer Electronics, the project resulted in higher speed and an optimized production. The technical solution included a one axis servo solution and control of the input belt via the frequency inverter BFI-P2, making the packaging process cost efficient and precise while the delivery efficiency went up to 10 %. “With support from Beijer Electronics, we achieved what we wanted, and more!” says Kristian Nordgren.
Data driven operations – from sensors to enterprise system
With the new application in place in their existing production, Persson Innovation is now able to collect data from over 20 machines. That means, they can have complete control over production and adjust and adapt in real time. “We measure the efficiency based on hours in production per day, and we have seen an 44% improvement since we started this project – which is a great result, and even better than expected!” says Kristian Nordgren.
“The data is collected through the X2 HMI and presented in Microsoft Power BI. We collect and store all data on our own servers, in a SQL database, and we are running iX software as the operator interface on the machines. Using power apps from Microsoft I can make the information available to my operators through an app – so that they can see all data coming in from the production.
Another great benefit is that we are now able to perform preventive maintenance by getting information about what to change and when, and being able to measure the quality in our operations in a better way.“ says Kristian Nordgren.

A support that makes the difference
“What made us choose Beijer Electronics was of course that they were able to meet our performance requirements, but more importantly the service we received. We have had a great dialogue throughout this project, and lots of support – giving us high confidence that this was the partner we wanted to achieve the results that we needed.” says Kristian Nordgren.
Future service offering using remote access
The next project for Persson innovation involves the machines which applies the handle to the cartons at the customers locations. Currently, with an installed base of over 100 machines around the world, the new generation of machines will feature remote access making Persson Innovation able to read data from machines anywhere in the world and offer new services to their clients.
“This will improve our offering to our customers, being able to improve our service and maintenance through remote access by retrieving data from the machines we send out. This will decrease physical travels, and handling time for any service case.” says Kristian Nordgren.
